GeForce 9600 GT is only DirectX 10 compliant?

Here's an intriguing bit of speculation to start 2008 - Chile Hardware have picked up some screenshots supposedly featuring details of NVIDIA's forthcoming, next-generation mid-range graphics board, the GeForce 9600 GT. Included amongst the information is a suggestion that, rather than supporting DirectX 10.1 as many of us have assumed, this board will continue to 'only' support DirectX 10.

Nah, that's gotta be wrong. No way they'd put out a card that doesn't use dx10.1 with all the games coming out that will be using it and the patches that will make all the old games fly with it.

10.1 is a pretty minor update, so how does it magically make "old games fly"? And why do you think there are all these games coming out that will use 10.1 rather than 10?

Doesn't one feature of 10.1 allow AA to be much faster? Considering AA cripples the frame rates on ATi cards, they will definitely benefit from 10.1.

If I remembered that 10.1 feature correctly...)

hm I don't remember anything about AA speed - just the ability to apply AA in places that normally wouldn't allow it - similar to when you couldn't use AA w/ HDR back in the day, but for different circumstances.

What games would actually use DX10.1 in 6 months? Hell DX10 games are slower then ford pinto's as it is. DX10.1 lol! Wake me up when we get accelerators that can handle DX10 smoothly. :mrgreen:

Do you think this card won't need the 6 pin cable since it's PCIe 2.0 ? That is if you're running a PCIe 2.0 board? Would be interesting

I have a feeling it'll still need the 6 pin cable even if I'm wrong on the dx10.1 bit.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't - The GeForce 8600 GTS ran fine without the six-pin PCI Express power connector at stock clocks.

Just standard for a Nvidia release. We hear about how feature/performance poor they are and than nearer release we find out how much better they are than expectations. I certainly expect dx 10.1 -- pr is so boring....

NVIDIA publicly confirmed other details of D9M: DirectX 10.1 support, Shader Model 4.0, OpenGL 2.1 and PCIe 2.0 support just to name a few.

I suspect that should be SM 4.1 though personally.
